Space Noodle

Some disconnected thoughts from the Blaesing household...

Jill and I were eating dinner tonight, and Drew was done and running around being a playful 2 year old. Out of the blue Drew goes over to Jill, gives her a hug and tells her... "I'll never, never give up." I'm not sure where he got that, or what brought it on, but it was definitely a moment to remember.

Drew has a new favorite shirt. It arrived in the mail a couple of weeks ago from Uncle Jarrod and Aunt Jenny. Drew reminds us of this fact every time he sees it. He likes to tell us that is says "Drum School" on it. He is also very proud to state that his shirt has a "Space Noodle" on it.

Here is a picture of Drew bowling in our hallway. What a perfect time for me to brag about my new bowling achievement last night. Second to last week of league, I bowled a 210, 216 and then a 226 for a 652 series on the night.. I won a mug! My previous high series was 620. Woo!!!

April Snow???

Last Saturday, the temperature her was 82 degrees. 1 Week later, and the snow is flying!

Hummingbird and the feeder, braving the snow
Totally sweet picture of same bird. He/she is extremely territorial over our feeder. It is quite entertaining.

The Park... With Manners!

Now that the weather is getting nicer, trips to the park are a great way to let Drew wear himself out after dinner. The really fun part is that all of the other kids Drew's age are also out to play.

In addition to his ever impressive ability to get along with almost any kid he sees (notice the picture at the bottom where Drew makes friends and receives some Golden Grahams from them for his efforts... he immediately splits from the pack when he got a fistful of his snack), he was a very polite little boy. When he accidentally bumped into another boy, he immediately said "Sorry". The boy's Mom let us know how impressed she was. Later, on the slide, Drew followed a Mom and her son to the top of the slide. When the Mom got to the bottom of the slide, from the top a little "Excuse Me!" heard coming from Drew. Hooray for manners!

Spring has Sprung

We had some amazing weather this weekend. 82 degrees on Saturday, 66 degrees on Sunday. Considering we've had highs in the 50's for the past 2 months, we were pretty excited to see some sun and warmth. The trees are starting to bloom, the hummingbirds are arriving, and two Black-Capped Chickadees are moving in to the bird house we stuck in a tree last fall. Spring has definitely arrived. Here are some pics. Enjoy.

Here we see Drew at the park while the air temperature was rising. Amazingly, we all escaped sunburn on Saturday.

On the way to Grandpa's new apartment, we see Drew in Mr. Potato Head glasses.

Drew and Grandpa rest on a short hike along Fairview Creek.

Late Sunday afternoon, Drew and the neighbors exhausted the last of their weekend energy rolling in the lawn

Steven Colbert's Americone Dream

When the sun comes out and the temperatures rise, is there anything better than a bowl of ice cream in the sun after dinner?

Here Drew enjoys a spoonful of Ben and Jerry's "Steven Colbert's Americone Dream".

67 degrees today, possibly 10 degrees more tomorrow. Spring Fever (and the ice cream trucks) have officially hit Vancouver, WA.

Bye Bye Binky

Posted by Picasa

Wow, that was easy.

Jill and I decided that it was time for Drew to say goodbye to his binkies forever. We had been limiting them to naps and overnight for the past months, but the goal was to eliminate them altogether.

As spring break started, Jill and Drew took all of Drew's binkies and put them into a large envelope. They them took them to the mailbox to send them to the "Binky Fairy". About 3 hours later we returned to the mailbox, and the fair had left Drew a toy motorcycle!

It has been a little more than a week since then and there have been no issues at all. We had fears that he would freak out for his binks when we got home from the beach (he didn't) or when he went to daycare this morning (he didn't!)

Bye, Bye Binkies!!!

___________________ is so boring!

It's funny how kids start to say something, and parents are left wondering, where did he learn that???

Drew spilled some water on the floor this evening. Jill and I asked him to clean it up, and his response was "Wiping is so BORING!" He then followed this up with an attempt to push the sliding glass door closed... "Pushing is so BORING!" As I was preparing to go bowling, Drew had a little coughing fit... "Coughing is so BORING!"

I wonder what's next...

A Milestone??

Not many people know exactly when they first chose to be photographed. Drew will know his. While on Spring Break 2008, at Devil's Punchbowl Beach, Drew asked Jill to take his picture. She remembered that she had her trusty cell phone, so she toook it out, Drew struck a pose, and Drew's first requested photograph was born, posted here for all to enjoy. Enjoy!

Current Updates

Pictures are coming as soon as I can figure out how to do it right.

Some of Drew's favorite words right now are "Fires", "Racecars", "That wasn't supposed to happen", "It's not fair, OK?", "To Infinity and beyond!", "Alphabet POWER! (with hand on hip and fist in air... we're baffled on this one)", "K-chow!" and many more.

His overall speech is improving. The mysterious silent S's at the beginning of words are beginning to reappear, so "Nake" is becoming "Snake" and "Poon" is becoming "Spoon" His vocabulary is immense, or at least it seem to be for a kid that is still not even 2 and a half. He is constantly talking. He rarely gives Mom and Dad a silent moment.

We just got back from 4 nights at Gleneden Beach (thanks Nana and Grandpa Steve). We went on a boat ride in Yaquina Bay and the Pacific Ocean, and Drew got to drive the boat for a short time. He also got to touch a sea anenome and see lots of seals staring at him near the tidepools at Devil's Punchbowl.

Drew constantly wants to race, whether it is running races with anyone who has the energy, racing cars on the floor, or racing his racket ship slippers, it is all about racing with this kid.

I'm going to try and figure out pictures on this blog. Bear with me. Check out "Chronicles of Reed" it is a blog of a co-worker that inspired my attempt at this kid blog thing. Link is at the right of the page.

WHY????

THe purpose of ths blog is to chronicle the events in Drew's life. I feel like this is a more manageable means of doing such a thing. Let's hope it will continue.

Thanks to Jim for the idea.
